Do you have accounts and addresses at both Outlook.com and AOL? You don’t need to open both outlook.com and aol.com to access all of your new emails.

Be it for convenience, security or just access, you can have Outlook.com download newly incoming mail from AOL accounts. Of course, you can then also reply to emails in style and in line with your AOL identity right from the Outlook.com interface.

Would you like to have a copy of all the AOL emails you receive in another email service, to serve as a backup?

Here is how to set up AOL access in Outlook.com.

  7. If it is successful, you will have a message that your account is now connected and Outlook.com is importing your email. They warn that the process can take awhile, but you are free to close your browser and even turn off your computer, It will continue to happen behind the scenes at Outlook.com. Select OK.
  1. Now you will see your AOL address under the Manage your connected accounts section. You can see the status as to whether it is up to date and the time of the last update. You can use the pencil icon to edit your account information.

  3. You can now choose your AOL email address as the From: address when composing an email. If you have another address selected as your primary, you will have to use the drop down caret next to From to choose your AOL address.

Setting Your Default Outgoing Email Address

Outlook.com automatically sets up your AOL or AIM Mail address for sending. If you use the AOL Mail address for new emails, you can make it the default in the “From:” line when you start a message.

To change your default outgoing email address to your aol.com address:

Click on the Mail Settings icon in the top bar (the gear or cogwheel) and select Connected accounts.

Under From address, your current default From address is listed. If you want to change it, click on Change your From address.

A Window will open, and you can select your aol.com address or any other address from the list in the box.

Now, new messages you compose will show this address on the From line, and it is where replies to the email will be sent. You can change this at any time when you are composing a message, or return to Mail Settings to change the default.
