Birds of a Feather… Flocked Together?

Is it something deep in the emails’ internal bits; or just the subject?

Whatever drives Gmail to lump together emails that have nothing to do with each other, it should be stopped; and you can.

After you have turned off conversation threading, Gmail will show emails purely in chronological order.

How Conversation View Works in Gmail

With conversation view enabled, Gmail will group and display together

  • all messages with the same subject line (disregarding prefixes such as “Re:“, “Aw.” or “Fwd:”)
  • up to 100 emails at a time.
