Looking for the Outlook.com Exchange server settings to set up Outlook Mail in your email program as an Exchange account?

With the right Exchange server configuration strings and ports, you can not only send and receive email using an Outlook.com account, you can also access all your online folders, contacts, calendars, to-do items and more with any Exchange client—including Outlook for Windows and Mac, Outlook for iOS and Outlook for Android as well as third-party programs such as iOS Mail or eM Client.

Outlook Mail on the Web (Outlook.com) Exchange Settings

  • Outlook.com Exchange server address: outlook.office365.com
    • The full URL is https://outlook.office365.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx​ , though you should not need this.
  • Port: 443
  • User name: Your full Outlook Mail on the Web (Outlook.com) email address
    • ​​This includes the domain name (“@outlook.com“, “@hotmail.com“, “@msn.com“, etc.)
    • ​Make sure you do not use an Outlook Mail on the Web alias for the user name.
  • Password: Your Outlook Mail on the Web password
    • Do create and use an application password if your Outlook Mail on the Web account uses two-step authentication.
  • TLS/SSL encryption required: yes

As an alternative to Outlook.com Exchange access, you can also set up an email program to download mail from Outlook.com via IMAP or using POP. Do remember that IMAP and POP are less convenient, though, and are limited to email access

Outlook.com Exchange ActiveSync Settings

Previously, Outlook.com and Hotmail offered Exchange ActiveSync access.

 Here are the settings for accessing incoming messages and online folders in an Exchange-enabled email program, cell phone or mobile device.

  • MSN Hotmail Exchange ActiveSync server address: m.hotmail.com
  • Domain: (leave empty)
  • User name: Your full MSN Hotmail email address (not an alias)
  • Password: Your MSN Hotmail password
  • TLS/SSL encryption required: yes
